Mamak Food @ Dataran Pelangi

Restoran Al-Safa
No.1 Pelangi One Avenue

After 5 months in my new office in Bandar Utama, we have had quite enough of the food in 1U - I mean, how often can you be eating in all those upmarket outlets, right? If you don't get pokkai, you also get jelak after a while, no?

So...I was happy to note that this new mamak shop, just a stone throw away from my office, has just opened a few days ago. Their congratulatory flower baskets are still all over the restaurant, albeit some of them have already withered to the ground.

Together with 2 other colleagues, we decided to try out their lunch fare.

This was what one of my colleagues had...plain rice + fried chicken + fried bittergourd + curry gravy...

The other colleague had almost the same stuff: plain rice + fried chicken + fried bittergourd + black sauce chicken + some greens...
The common item we all had was this Fried Chicken...crispy on the outside and tender inside...with masala marinade in the meat...

This was what I had: Plain Thosai...with sambal, dhall curry and fish curry dips...
Want more of the Fried Chicken? Here...a small hill of them...
The array of other dishes and nasi bryani...
Various types of curries...
More curries...they all looked absolutely yummy!
The fried or "no gravy" dishes on the top level...
Vegetable dishes all in a row...
Another view of the nasi bryani...
More vegetables...
Are you getting hungry yet? Hehe...

The shop being new, is very clean and service was also fast...and they have quite a good crowd there. All the dishes looked very yummy and appetizing and the selection was really commendable. Since I only tried their thosai and fried chicken, I definitely will be back to try the other dishes. Furthermore, it's less than 5 minutes' drive from the office, parking is no problem ...

My rating: 7/10

Directions/location: It's located in the Pelangi Utama condominiums - behind the Shell & Mobil stations across from TV3 Complex. From the other direction, it's along that cut-thru road from the Damansara Toll, cutting left into the furniture shops, heading to Bandar Utama.

Choosing curries at such stalls is stressful for me. I just want everything. :P
